Albania to Spend EUR 8 Mln for 6 'Bayraktar' Armoured Drones
Prime Minister Edi Rama has revealed that Albania will buy six armed "Bayraktar" drones from Turkey, which will also serve civilian purposes.
During an interview, the Head of the Albanian Government informed that the drones will also serve for civil purposes, such as: control of the territory, for illegal constructions, for the protection of forests, for the pursuit of persons in search and for the detection and cultivation of narcotics.
"We are at the end of the agreement to take the "Bayraktar" drone, seeing the flow of events...we will take them armed. For the purposes we have and for the service they will provide us, they are absolutely reasonably priced. "Bayraktar" drones are in packages, they are two plus two, which means we will get six.
They will also serve for civil purposes, for territory control, for unauthorized constructions, for the protection of forests, for the pursuit of wanted persons, for the cultivation of narcotics and so on. Drones also have smart cameras as part of the package," said Prime Minister Edi Rama in an interview for the "Opinion".
On his part, Selcuk Bayraktar, who runs the Baykar company in Istanbul with his brother Haluk, told Reuters that drones are the clearest evidence of how technology is revolutionizing modern warfare today.
"Countries from all over the world want to be our clients", said Selcuk Bayraktar.
It seems that very soon Albania will be a customer, which will buy six armed "Bayraktar" drones, the last word in technology, while according to Reuters, this flying machine is probably the best-selling and most sought-after drone in the world today.
The TB2 drone has a wingspan of 12 meters and can climb to 25,000 feet before launching bombs to destroy tanks and artillery with the help of a laser. The TB2 can stay in the sky for up to 27 hours. The drone can fly up to 150 kilometers from its base. It is equipped with 4 missiles, it does perfectly, but on a smaller scale, the job of a bomber worth 200 million dollars. The difference is that a pickup truck can be transported and there is no need for airports and military air bases.
Maximum weight of the bomber drone is up to 650kg-700kg. By November 2021, TB2 drones had logged 400,000 flight hours in total worldwide. The price for one unit of Bayraktar TB2 has not been made public, but on some websites it is suggested that it is 5 million euros.
"Bayraktar" is very capable of hitting the least protected parts of the enemy's front, as a bomber drone mercilessly hits logistics trucks, communications centers, etc.
The drone is unmanned, but three people are responsible for its direction, who of course stay comfortably and safely away from the mud of war. They are the commander, the "pilot" and the operator.
When the "Bayraktar" drone is on a combat mission, the three stay at the designated command-control station, which is generally a truck, where powerful radars are installed. This unit is capable of simultaneously commanding three bomber drones, a special software is installed in it that receives exact coordinates from the battlefield and instantly calculates the best options to attack.
However, this armed Turkish drone has been "shining" since it was tested in May 2014, but was used in the Turkish Armed Forces a year later. TB2 drones have been used by Turkey in "counter-terrorism" operations against the Kurds, but their devastating impact was seen globally not only during the war in Ukraine but also during the late 2020 conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, when TB2 drones "Bayraktar" was used by Azerbaijan against Armenians.
A year ago it was the Turkish newspaper "Yeni ?afak" which wrote that Albania would spend 8 million euros for the purchase of superintelligent drones, type IHA and S?HA produced by "Baykar Defense" in Turkey.
Unmanned aerial vehicles, which are produced in the defense industry with weapons, are called SIHA type and have integrated ammunition, while IHA type drones operate without weapons and serve to monitor and collect information.
During the visit to Istanbul in June 2021, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced for the first time the reaching of an agreement to equip the country with several intelligent drones that would serve to monitor the territory.
Rama shared two photos from the meeting with the Turkish experts and said that it was about drones that would collect and transmit real-time data on roads, the coast, agricultural land, forests, public order and more.
On June 22, 2021, the government changed the budget with a normative act to spend 1 billion lek for the Ministry of Defense for drone equipment within the framework of the agreement with Turkey and measures to increase control of the territory and national security as a whole, although in relation not it is specified that it is also about military drones.
Premises of the factory where several variants of "Bayraktar" drones are produced were also visited last year by the Minister of the Interior, Bledi Çuçi.
