Albania to Send Additional Troops to NATO's Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo
Albania will send additional troops to the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, especially after the Serbian terrorist attack on September 24 in Banjska area of the north.
Ambassador of Albania in Kosovo, Petrit Malaj, speaking about the security situation in Kosovo, emphasizes that the risk of another attack from Serbia could be permanent.
The Albanian diplomat pointed out to KosovaPress that next year they will bring 40 additional troops to KFOR.
Ambassador Malaj said that currently the number of Albanian soldiers within the NATO mission in Kosovo is over 100.
"We have a certain number of soldiers, in fact we have over 100 soldiers in Peja and in the KFOR command. I had a meeting with the commander of KFOR and Albania has always stood by the opinion that KFOR should strengthen its presence and be present wherever it wants in Kosovo to carry out its security and peace mission. all citizens in Kosovo.
I think that KFOR is doing this, it has increased its forces and its presence in the north of Mitrovica is felt more, precisely seeing the danger, but on the other hand also having their idea to implement as best as possible the mission that they have in Kosovo.
We will bring troops again next year. Thus, next year, Albania will bring additional troops to KFOR to always be within its obligations as a member state of NATO and a powerful ally of the West. We will bring another 40 forces next year", states Malaj.
Malaj also commented on the statements of the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani that "Serbia is planning new attacks".
"As long as the president of Kosovo is speaking and such structures of a state which is well organized, without a doubt they have the right information and they know these things very well. I don't have the right information, maybe for details, but I know that the risk can be permanent. Therefore, some steps must be taken and as our Prime Minister (Edi Rama) said a few days ago, for Serbia to decide to normalize this relationship. We can't get anywhere by just having conflicts. Undoubtedly, the dialogue has brought agreements, they require implementation on both sides. In this particular case, Kosovo has done what it should and is taking the right steps for this", emphasized Malaj.
The Kosovar heads of state assess the danger that comes from Serbia for peace and security in the country and the region. The President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani days ago at the meeting of the EU summit with the Western Balkans informed the European leaders, as she said, about the danger that comes from Serbia for peace and security in the country and the region. Bundeswehr Brigadier General Ralf Hammerstein has said these days that the security in Kosovo is deteriorating significantly and NATO is increasing its presence in the spring, also with the help of the Bundeswehr - Germany's armed forces. Also, the American Robert Lansing Institute has expressed concerns about new attacks from Serbia in Kosovo, especially after the September 24 incident.
