EU to Continue Supporting Justice Reform
The Delegation of the European Union to Albania has reacted after the decision of US President Donald Trump to temporarily suspend US international assistance funds, stressing the EU’s continued commitment to supporting justice reform.
According to the delegation, the EU has played a key role in financing and technical assistance for this reform since 2016.
So far, the EU has provided over €50 million for the construction of new justice institutions, including direct budget support and technical projects. These funds are expected to continue uninterrupted through the Western Balkans Growth and Reform Facility.
"We have taken note of the announcement made by President Trump to temporarily suspend all US foreign assistance programs for 90 days pending reviews by the new administration. The EU has been at the forefront of providing assistance for justice reform and is committed to continuing to support justice reform in Albania.
Since the justice system underwent a fundamental reform in 2016, the EU has significantly intensified this support. This included budget support and over €50 million in technical assistance, targeting in particular institution building. Other significant resources are foreseen to continue this support smoothly, including through the Growth and Reform Facility for the Western Balkans," the EU reacted.
