Albanian Ex-Fighter of KLA Released from Prison after War Crimes Charges
Former fighter of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), Dritan Goxhaj, arrested a few months ago in Tirana, has been released from prison.
Court of Appeal opposed this Tuesday the decision of the First Instance, taken on September 19, for the extradition of the former fighter of the Liberation Army to Kosovo and then to the Netherlands.
The lawyers appealed the decision in the Appeal in early October due to the political nature of the case.
The defense emphasized that the signature of the Minister of Justice of Kosovo was missing to pave the way for the extradition to the Netherlands, saying that it is a country with which Albania does not have an agreement.
Goxhaj was arrested on July 31 by order of the Special Court, with the claim that he has published the names of several witnesses in a judicial process.
He is accused of criminal offenses against the administration of justice that include intimidation and obstruction of official persons in the performance of their duties.
