Albanian Law Students Protest in North Macedonia, Demand Right to Take Bar Exam in Albanian

Albanian law students in North Macedonia staged a protest in front of the Ministry of Justice, calling on authorities to allow them to sit the jurisprudence (bar) exam in the Albanian language, as ??????????ed by law.

The students gathered peacefully, emphasizing that their demand is not political but rooted in legal rights already guaranteed. They insisted that the ability to take the exam in their native language is a matter of equality, identity, and respect for the rule of law.

Speaking during the protest, student Mevlan Ademi said they would not remain silent and would continue their efforts until their rights are fully recognized. He also called for the resignation of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Minister of Justice Igor Filkov.

“This is our language, our identity. We are law students who will defend the law tomorrow, and today we are here to use something the law already recognizes. We are here for our right. Language is history,” Ademi said.

“Today we stand united and will not allow Albanian to be treated as an option, because it is not an option—it is identity. There is no rule of law without respect for language. This is the legacy of those before us and the message for those who come after us. Albanian is not negotiable,” he added.
