A 25-year-old Albanian man has been shot dead in northern Italy after allegedly entering a private property with a group of suspected burglars, according to Italian media reports.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in Baldissero d’Alba, in the province of Cuneo. A group of at least four or five people had reportedly entered the grounds of a home when the owner, identified as Roberto Mollo, confronted them.

Mollo, a mechanic and truck driver who was alone at the property, reportedly heard noises outside and went to investigate. He then retrieved a legally owned semi-automatic pistol and opened fire, according to the preliminary reconstruction reported by Italian media.

One of the alleged intruders, a 25-year-old Albanian resident of Turin, was fatally wounded. His identity has not yet been publicly released.

The other members of the group reportedly fled the scene.

Italian authorities are investigating the shooting and the circumstances surrounding the alleged burglary, including the exact sequence of events and the actions of those involved.
