Local By-elections/ DP Membership Choose Its Own Candidates; Berisha

Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has responded Thursday to the accusations of Chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha, who said that the historical leader intended to hand over the party to current President Ilir Meta, while Berisha's group and the Socialist Party for Integration (SMI) will enter March 6 by-elections together.

In his speech, Berisha also said that he has no personal comment for Basha’s March 6 polls candidates, while adding that the PD membership chose its own candidates.

Meanwhile, the former prime minister expressed his support for the protest of the residents of "5 May" in Tirana, whose houses were demolished, describing it as a mega-theft of the government and the municipality, while emphasizing that the residents are being deceived.

"Can you answer a man who in three words tells three lies? You were served not 7 x 7, they make 42, 1958 for 5004 and the man who is surrounded like in a bunker .I have no personal comments about him. They are, in fact, Lul Brava candidates and have nothing to do with membership. DP members today have the candidates proposed by them.

I have here the pseudo deal that is served to the residents just to deceive them. A territory is given to several companies to develop. They have developed the territory all over Tirana and you have never seen protests of this nature. Here is the black hand of government theft because here it is not allowed that what should be given to the residents is appropriated by the government and the municipality and the developers are left with nothing of profit.

Greed in these affair has only heaven as its limit. Although the floors of the towers have been raised again, this does not allow the government to sign agreements with the residents who demolish their houses, but deceives them by asking for a notarized self-declaration.

What is happening is an inhuman act, a violation of citizens' rights, a huge mega-theft with 30-storey towers being built on their lands.

There is a law of possession of property, that after a certain period the one who has the property is compensated. In this case, the municipality and the government, in order to re-declare these illegal, even though they have 20 years to get the floors they want for themselves and behave in this way towards the residents. I support their protest and call on the citizens of Tirana to show solidarity", said Berisha.
