Berisha Holds Press Conference after PM’s Probe Call to SPAK
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha will hold Wednesday non, at 12:30, a press conference following Prime Minister Edi Rama’s call to the Special Prosecution against Organized Crime and Corruption (SPAK) to scrutinize him regarding the killing of four protesters in 2011 and Gërdec tragedy, which caused 26 victims in 2008.
In the extraordinary joint press conference with the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, from the Socialist Party’s (SP) headquarters, PM Rama proclaimed that the Special Prosecution must investigate and reveal if the US have any proof against Berisha regarding the “significant corruption” charges.
“What is the pressure to seek the investigation of a former president and a former prime minister declared "non grata" by the US, with the most serious possible accusations that are directly related to the activity of the institutions of this country?
And do you do this, almost a year after the declaration "non grata" was made and after the US Secretary of State publicly demanded in a statement that the institutions of this country should do their job? And to be very clear, I did not ask and no one asked for punishment, but investigation.
Investigation, we do not decide the punishment, but to investigate an issue that is a cornerstone for Albania and is not a matter of one person, it is a necessity.
In order for the truth to be fully clarified by an independent and just judiciary, which is independent, there is no question that today the former ministers, former MPs and former mayors, associated with this ruling party, would not be behind bars.
They are independent this is not a point of discussion, so this independent justice must be freed from all fears of the past, and finally investigated on January 21, state crime is not statute-barred, does not exist, to be fully investigated whether it is or Its not. Investigate Gërdec, some big corruption scandals”, stressed PM Rama earlier.
