Clashes broke out outside Albania's Parliament on Thursday after police tightened security around the legislature, blocking access to nearby streets as protesters gathered for a demonstration.

Witnesses at the scene said protesters confronted police after authorities restricted pedestrian access along Elbasan Street. Demonstrators removed one of the metal barricades erected near Parliament, prompting security forces to reinforce their positions.

Protesters hurled eggs and tomatoes at police officers, while water cannon trucks were deployed nearby and remained on standby as tensions escalated.

Authorities also suspended traffic in the surrounding area after demonstrators moved into a major intersection, disrupting vehicle movement between Zhan D'Ark Boulevard and the road leading toward the 21 Dhjetori district.

Police maintained a heavy security presence around the Parliament building as protesters continued their demonstration. No immediate information was available on injuries or arrests.
