Construction of 128MW Plant in Fier Okayed
The government approved in its meeting on Friday the construction of a photovoltaic power generation plant and additional support infrastructure, which is not subject to concession and does not benefit from support measures.
The plant is located in Sheq-Marinas in Fier by the local company Solar Energy. The plant with an installed capacity of 128 MW will operate as an independent producer by selling energy on the free market.
According to the government decision, the expected deadline for commissioning and obtaining a construction permit will be within 36 months from the entry into force of the decision. Meanwhile, the operating period will be 49 years from the entry into force of the decision. According to the decision, the entity is obliged to give the state 2 percent of the energy produced or the equivalent value in lek.
Albania is rapidly expanding its solar photovoltaic capacity to diversify its heavily hydro-dependent energy mix. Major projects include the 140 MW Karavasta plant (operational) and the 100 MW Spitalla project. Upcoming developments feature a 50 MW plant in Belsh and a 75 MW plant in Erseka, alongside innovative floating solar units, enhancing energy security and reducing import reliance.
