Court Postpones Decision on Veliaj on Thursday, 10:00 am

The Appeal Court postponed again this Wednesday the decision on the request for an easier security measure from Tirana mayor, Erjon Veliaj, arrested on February 10.

Veliaj himself objected the new evidences of the Special Prosecution (SPAK), who wiretapped him in the last month.

“You have not considered Sali Berisha’s public attacks on SPAK as new evidence. But today you have considered my phone calls and my interest in interviews on mainstream TV as new evidence,” Veliaj said.

Through his defense, the mayor of Tirana requested the lifting of his prison sentence, arguing that he is not dangerous, has no risk of escaping, and has no possibility of damaging any evidence. However, prosecutors recalled that Veliaj is being investigated for corruption in nine cases and money laundering.

Decision on Veliaj will be made public on Thursday, 13 March at 10:00 am.
