COVID-19, Albania Infections Near 500 as Deaths Fall Under 10

Albania has experienced Saturday a “good” day when it comes to coronavirus-related figures, while the number of citizens who have tested positive with the virus have fallen considerably, along with the number of fatalities.

According to the health authorities of the country, in the last 24 hours were found 538 nationals infected with the SARS-CoV-2 after 2276 tests. Tirana is still the most-affected area pandemic-wise, since it has recorded 192 fresh cases lately, while Puka, Mirdita, Ura-Vajgurore, Vau Dejës, Belsh, Malësi e Madhe, Kuçova and Cërrik had only 1 new case each.

“2276 tests have been performed and 538 citizens have resulted positive. Confirmed positive cases were identified in these municipalities: 192 cases in Tirana, 45 cases in Shkodra, 38 cases in Durres, 22 cases in Kavaja, 21 cases in Fier, 18 cases in Berat, 17 cases in Elbasan and Lezha, 15 cases in Saranda , 14 cases in Korça, 13 cases in Lushnja, 12 cases in Mat, 11 cases in Vlora, 9 cases in Përmet, Kruja, Kukës, Mallakastra, 8 cases in Gjirokastra, 7 cases in Kurbin and Tropoja, 5 cases in Pogradec, Skrapar , Peqin, 4 cases in Devoll, Librazhd, 3 cases in Tepelena and Has, 2 cases in Delvina, Fushë-Arrez, Dibra and Gramsh, 1 case in Puka, Mirdita, Ura-Vajgurore, Vau Dejës, Belsh, Malësi e Madhe, Kuçova, Cërrik”, pronounced the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

Bittersweet is the information about the fatalities from the virus, because the number has decreased and there are still people who have lost their lives. The fatalities for today were 7 citizens from Tirana, 1 citizen from Librazhi aged 58-85, for whom the Ministry of Health expresses its condolences.

On the bright side, 405 citizens have been cured in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of recoveries to 27,831 since the beginning of the epidemic. However, this number is lower than a day before, when 528 citizens had recovered from the disease.

Furthermore, the number of hospital admissions continues to be stable. Currently, in the four  COVID hospitals are being treated 376 patients, 30 in intensive therapy and 10 of the latter have been put on ventilators.

“Ministry of Health and Social Protection, on the eve of the end-of-year holidays appeals to citizens to limit contacts, avoid gatherings and celebrate within their small family. Only in this way can we have healthy holidays and prevent the spread of the SarsCov2 virus”, emphasized the health department of the Albanian government.
