DP Urges President to Call Security Council Meeting

MP of Democratic Party (DP), Gazment Bardhi has reacted to the last two incidents in Gramsh and Poliçan related to military facilities.

Bardhi accuses Prime Minister Edi Rama, whom he says decided that the Military Police will no longer protect these facilities. The Democrat has raised the alarm, urging the president to immediately call a meeting of the National Security Council.

"On July 21, 2022, Edi Rama decided that the Military Police will no longer protect military facilities, but must protect the Minister of Defense and other senior civilian officials of the Ministry of Defense. Even in this case, the objection of the opposition was not heard and the law was approved by force in the Parliament. Identical events within 24 hours, where foreign citizens (Russian, Ukrainian and Czech) entered military facilities, compromising security and in one case endangering the lives of Albanian soldiers, make it necessary to return attention to this legal change unsubstantiated and sudden. And while the responsible authorities have the obligation to clarify and make full transparency about the circumstances of the event in Gramsh and Poliçan, including the performance of the Albanian institutions of intelligence and national security, the President of the Republic has the institutional obligation to urgently call a meeting of the Security Council National, to assess the level of security in the military facilities of the Albanian state. Breaching the security of military facilities seriously endangers the national security of a NATO member country. If this risk also comes from wrong political decision-making, such as reducing the level of conservation in these facilities, there must be political responsibility. The military facilities of the Albanian state cannot be treated as "inns without gates", as in fact Edi Rama has returned the state and public institutions", stressed Bardhi.
