Premier Officially Announces Electricity Crisis

As he warned a week ago, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, announced on Friday officially the electricity crisis following difficulties registered across Europe and as far away as China and India over supplies and soaring prices.

At the end of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Premier informed that tomorrow Albanians will be introduced to a special plan for the electricity crisis. He made clear that actually the priority of the government is the protection of consumers, but also of the small businesses.

"Today we had a meeting outside the weekly plan to make a decision to declare an emergency in the supply of electricity. The emergency decision is dictated by a general situation of dizzying increase in the price of electricity in international markets and gives the government the opportunity to intervene with both financial and administrative instruments. So today with this decision we open the way for the execution of the special plan to face this situation and we will make the plan public tomorrow ", said Rama.

Question: How much will the package cost and how long will it last?

PM Rama: Of course, we have calculated them all. Tomorrow we will publish a special plan for all citizens. In the meantime, we can only refer to the analysis of experts and at the same time the analysis that the governments of different countries are doing. It is a situation very similar in terms of a shock to the pandemic situation, in the sense that everyone is affected, of course unlike the pandemic, different countries have some different characteristics, but everyone is involved in a rationale for how they should cope with this situation. Experts think that the crisis will be present with the peak, with its peak until the middle of next year, and at the same time, they think that even after overcoming the peak, prices will not return to where they were before the crisis. We owe to protect our customers. Certainly with a sequence of priorities, from bottom to top, given to those most in need and then writing up through the small business and beyond. The order of priorities is from the weakest to the strongest, not the other way around.
