Fierza Reservoir Filled with Water Thanks to Intensive Raining
Water basin of the Fierza hydropower plant (HPP) quotas were only three meters away from the minimum quotas, or the so-called point of death at the beginning of this week, but this problem is over thanks to the intensive rainfall in the recent days.
River flows have increased tenfold in the last 24 hours to about 900 cubic meters of water per second, while the water level in Lake Fierza has exceeded 262 meters above sea level, from 259 meters that it was three days ago.
Meanwhile, rainfall is present throughout the northeastern territory, where the main rivers that supply Lake Fierza Drini i bardhë i Drini i Zi, are increasing their inflows.
Earlier on, the flows in the cascade were 100 cubic meters per second, increased compared to three days ago which were 80 cubic meters, because the government of North Macedonia had opened the discharge gates of Lake Ohrid for its needs.
This had caused the inflows in Lake Fierza to increase from 80 cubic meters to 100 cubic meters per second, while in recent days the production of energy from this HPP had been stopped.
With these inflows, the lake level rose by 1 cm per hour and sources from the directorate of the Fierza hydropower plant, announced that the power generation turbines in the lake had been closed since Sunday.
