Fierza Power Plant’s Water Level Reaches Critical Point

Water basin of the Fierza hydropower plant (HPP) quotas are only three meters away from the minimum quotas, or the so-called point of death, as reported Monday.

In Lake Fierza, the water level has currently reached the point of 247 meters above sea level while the minimum quota is 244 meters above sea level.

Meanwhile, the flows in the cascade are 100 cubic meters per second, increased compared to three days ago which were 80 cubic meters, because the government of North Macedonia has opened the discharge gates of Lake Ohrid for its needs.

This has caused the inflows in Lake Fierza to increase from 80 cubic meters to 100 cubic meters per second, while in recent days the production of energy from this HPP has been stopped.

With these inflows, the lake level rises by 1 cm per hour. Sources from the directorate of the Fierza hydropower plant, announce that the power generation turbines in the lake have been closed since Sunday.

To make things worse now that Albania has been engulfed by the crisis of price hikes, no turbine has been working in the hydropower plant for 4 days.
