Fire in Shpirag Mountain under Control; Defence Minister

The Minister of Defence, Niko Peleshi, has reacted regarding the fire situation in Mount Shpirag, Berat. Peleshi writes on social media that the situation has been brought under control and the flames are moving towards complete isolation, since more than 100 members of the Armed Forces were activated in the area.

He adds that due to the difficult terrain a helicopter intervened to put out fires.

"The situation is under control and the fire is moving towards complete isolation on Mount Shpirag, in the municipality of Berat. In support of the forces on the ground, 50 more troops from the Poshnje ward were engaged, bringing to 100 the number of members of the Armed Forces who are working intensively until its final extinguishment.

Due to the difficult terrain that does not allow intervention with firefighting equipment, the Cougar helicopter came to the rescue in the early hours of the morning, continuing the intervention from the air throughout the day," Peleshi wrote.
