A 61-year-old fisherman was found dead in the sea off the coast of southern Albania on Tuesday, with authorities investigating whether his death was the result of rough weather or another cause.

The victim, identified as Mihal Zoi, was discovered near the Ksamil Islands, close to the coastal city of Saranda. Preliminary findings suggest he drowned after reportedly going out to fish.

Police also recovered the victim's sunken boat in the area, reinforcing initial suspicions that the incident may have occurred during a powerful storm that struck the region the previous evening.

Investigators are examining two possible scenarios: an accidental drowning caused by severe weather conditions or a possible suicide. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and no final conclusions have been reached.

According to police, the victim was divorced, and his children live in neighboring Greece. He is reported to have had no immediate family in Albania other than a sister.

In a statement, Albanian police said the body was discovered at around 11:00 a.m. near the Ksamil Islands. A preliminary examination at the scene indicated that the man likely died from drowning after allegedly heading out to sea for fishing. Officers also located the vessel believed to have been used by the fisherman.

The investigative team, working under the direction of the prosecutor's office, is continuing efforts to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
