Foreign Overnight Stays Increase by 26% in Dec
Albania is not only interesting for tourists in the summer but throughout the year. Data from the country’s statistical office (INSTAT) on accommodation structures show that in December, foreign visitors increased by 21% on an annual basis, while overnight stays by almost 26%. Domestic tourism has been weaker with single-digit growth rates.
According to INSTAT, in December 2024, the total number of visitors increased by 13.8%, compared to December 2023.
During December 2024, there was an increase in the total number of visitors by 13.8%, compared to December 2023. The number of non-resident visitors who were accommodated in the Center Region increased by 20.2%. In the Non-Coastal Areas, this indicator increased by 14.6%, compared to the same period of the previous year.
The number of non-resident visitors in “Hotels and similar accommodations” has increased by 19.1%.
During December 2024, the number of total overnight stays has increased by 17.9%, compared to December 2023. The number of overnight stays of non-resident visitors who have been accommodated in the Center Region has increased by 26.5%. In the Non-Coastal Areas, this indicator has increased by 21.8%, compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of overnight stays of non-resident visitors who have been accommodated in “Hotels and similar accommodations” has increased by 23.9%.
Net occupancy rates, of rooms and beds, are two indicators that measure the percentage of utilization of accommodation capacities, rooms, and beds available for visitors. During this month, the occupancy rate of rooms in "Hotels and similar accommodations" is 18.1%, compared to 13.3% in December 2023. The occupancy rate of beds in "Hotels and similar accommodations" is 18.0%, compared to 14.7% in December 2023.
