Free-Palestine-Protesters Seek Clarification on Israel’s PM Thanks to Albania
Citizens calling for the freeing of Palestine have asked Sunday to know publicly the position of the Albanian government regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, asking for clarifications for the thanks-giving tweet of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu to the country for its support.
This demand was made in front of the TV cameras covering the protest of some citizens in support of Palestine in “Scanderbeg Square†in the center of Tirana, a protest that was accompanied by collision and tension with the police.
Earlier today, PM Netanyahu tweeted “Thank you for resolutely standing with Israel and supporting out right to self defense against terrorist attacks".
Minutes after the start of the protest, law enforcement officers intervened, demanding that they disperse as they were violating the Normal Act of the pandemic that prohibits rallies. However, police hands are “tied†as the Constitutional Court abolished on May 5 the last changes of Criminal Code that allows police and Court to fine or imprison all those who organize illegal protests.
As the protesters refused to disperse, law enforcement officers forcibly escorted some of them as they started shouting: "Fascist police!" The protesters said that the behavior of the police was unfair because at 20:00, a concert would be held in the same square.
After the police pressure, the protest moved to Kavaja Street, while the citizens continued with to shout: “Free Palestine! Allahu Akbarâ€.
