Albania’s High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) has decided to increase the reference salary used to calculate prosecutors’ incomes, following a similar move by the country’s High Judicial Council to raise judges’ salaries.

According to media reports, the KLP decided at a meeting held Friday that the reference salary will be set at 222,425 Albanian lek, with an additional approximately 14,000 lek linked to the qualification level. This brings the calculation base to 236,425 lek.

The decision directly affects members of the KLP, whose salaries are calculated on the basis of a prosecutor’s salary.

The council has also called on the General Prosecutor’s Office to apply the same reference salary to prosecutors. In practice, however, the KLP is understood to have established the basis for prosecutors’ salaries and is seeking a formal decision from the General Prosecutor’s Office to implement it.

The increase represents a 65,600-lek rise in the reference salary, in addition to the approximately 14,000-lek qualification component.

The changes are expected to significantly increase the salaries of magistrates, with the impact potentially reaching more than €3,000 in additional monthly pay for senior institutions and specialized structures, depending on the salary formulas established by law.

The move comes amid broader efforts to adjust compensation across Albania’s justice system.
