KFOR: We Expect Coordination Regarding any Actions by the KP or KSF That May Affect Security
KFOR was not consulted during yesterday's operation by the special forces of the Kosovo Police in four municipalities in the north. We are monitoring the situation and remain vigilant, ready to take all necessary measures to fulfill our UN mandate, stated KFOR in a written response to Kosovo Online.
"KFOR is monitoring the situation and remains on alert. It is well-positioned to take all necessary measures to continue fulfilling its UN mandate and to respond to any further relevant developments," the response emphasizes.
It adds that KFOR continues to support the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina with the backing of the EU, providing the necessary security framework for diplomacy to progress.
"This is the only way to resolve outstanding issues and reach solutions that respect the rights of all communities," the response highlights.
They added that they expect timely consultations regarding any actions by the Kosovo Police or KSF that may affect security.
"The actions were not adequately consulted or coordinated with KFOR. KFOR expects timely coordination of any actions by the Kosovo Police or Kosovo Security Forces that could impact security," the response emphasizes.
The response goes on to remind that KFOR continues to carry out its mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 from 1999, to ensure a safe and secure environment for all communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement – at all times and impartially.
It is reminded that KFOR is the third security response, after the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), with whom it closely cooperates.
