Qukës-Qafë Plloça to Open Within Summer
The construction site of the Qukës-Qafë Plloça road segment is working at an increased pace to finalize this long-awaited project. The problems inherited with this project have already been properly resolved, and it is intended that this work will be accessible by the summer of this year.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, while closely inspecting the progress of the works, emphasized that "we are already in the final phase, where financing has been secured, where all three phases of this project are progressing significantly, given that we are more than 85% progress in all three phases of the project".
The segment crosses a difficult and mountainous terrain, and due to the weather, the works have advanced at a slower pace. Now, with the improvement of weather conditions, work will be carried out with longer hours. Deputy Prime Minister Balluku said that in order to complete the work within the stipulated deadline, the construction sites will work in two shifts.
“Within the summer period, we want the Qukës-Qafë Plloça section to be completed, for this reason, I have spoken with the supervisor and asked him to keep in mind something that is the final solution, the creation of two operational shifts that should start early in the morning and end late in the evening, of course, meeting all the safety conditions at work, which is very important,” said Balluku.
The Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Gentian Gjyli, announced that the winter maintenance of the segment, which is located at a high altitude, is another challenge, but that the ARRSH now has the necessary experience to guarantee that traffic continues without problems even during the winter season, where this area is known for heavy snowfall and low temperatures.
