Kosovo PM Albin Kurti Rejects President’s Decree, Awaits Constitutional Court Ruling
Kosovo Prime Minister and Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti held a press conference following recent political developments, stating that he does not accept President Vjosa Osmani’s decree dissolving parliament and is awaiting a ruling from the Constitutional Court.
Kurti argued that the parliament should not have been dissolved at this stage, calling the president’s decree unconstitutional. He emphasized that the process to elect a new president had not reached the required third round, which would automatically trigger elections.
“There is a 60-day period to elect the president, and we were in the Assembly for only 30 minutes. The 60-day criterion has not been met; today is March 6, not May 5. The dissolution decree is unconstitutional because the competence to dissolve the Assembly can only be exercised in cases explicitly provided by the Constitution,” Kurti said.
He criticized the absence of opposition deputies and those aligned with Belgrade during the failed session, noting that none had informed the Assembly president of their absence, leaving the matter to the Constitutional Court.
Kurti also confirmed he did not attend a consultation meeting convened earlier by President Osmani to discuss setting a date for new elections, asserting that no electoral process can proceed until the court has given its verdict.
