Kosovo Removes Billboard with Vucic, Putin in Zveçan

Kosovo authorities have announced on Thursday that they have removed a billboard in Zveçan, with pictures of various personalities - including the president of Serbia and Russia - on the grounds that symbols of persons who have an aggressive approach to Kosovo will not be allowed. The news was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla.

In addition to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the billboard also featured photos of Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, Serbian surgeon Zoran Krivokapic, diplomat Yugoslavian Kostic, former director of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Marko Djuric and the president of The Republika Srpska Committee for Aid to Serbs in Kosovo, Milorad Arllovit.

All have previously been declared honorary citizens of Zvecan, one of the four municipalities with a Serb majority in northern Kosovo.

A good part of them have also expressed publicly against the citizenship of Kosovo.

"The only symbol of Serbia within our state will be its embassy in Pristina", Sveçla wrote on Facebook, while publishing a video where workers contracted by the Government of Kosovo were seen removing the billboard.

"From today, the symbolism of dictators or countries that are aggressive in relation to Kosovo and its existence will not be allowed in any corner", Sveçla said, among other things.

"The Republic of Kosovo is clearly defined for its democratic values and Euro-Atlantic orientation, while as institutions we remain committed to law and order and the implementation of constitutionality in every part of our country".

The billboard was located near the village of Banjske, the place where in September of last year, an armed Serbian group attacked the Kosovo Police, killing Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku.

Three Serbian attackers were also killed in the exchange of fire.
