Kurti-Lajcak-Escobar Meeting, Future of Balkans Discussed

During the joint press conference, alongside Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, the US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar said that the US is working with European friends to recognize the Balkans as an extraordinary opportunity and not as a danger.

Escobar stated from Pristina his support for Kosovo's sovereignty and independence.

"The United States strongly supports Kosovo's independence and sovereignty. You have shown that you are a solid partner, a good friend and we thank you for that.

The region has an extraordinary perspective because you are historically, culturally and economically European, so we are working with our European friends to recognize the Western Balkans as an extraordinary opportunity, not a danger," added the US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Kurti said that the Government supports the principled and balanced Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, which would benefit the citizens of both countries.

"We are determined that territorial integrity, sovereignty, state functioning, remain intact," said Kurti.

Lajcak said in his speech that his visit with Escobar is a message that the EU and the US share the same opinion regarding the future of the region.

"We will be there until Wednesday and until then we hope to have a clearer picture for the future," said Lajcak.
