Late President Nishani Taken to Cemeteries with Ceremony

Body of former President Bujar Nishani will be laid to rest in the Sharra cemetery, while with all honors as provided by law, through a state ceremony, he was transported on Thursday, June 2 to his mausoleum. 

High personalities in Albania but also in Kosovo, diplomatic missions in Albania, friends, colleagues and former collaborators, family and acquaintances with whom he shared his years, paid their last respects to the former head of the sixth state in Albania post-communist. 

Tributes to the former head of state, who passed away a few days ago, started at 10:00 and ended at 12:00, when another minute of silence was observed. 

Afterwards, with a state ceremony, the coffin with the dead body of Bujar Nishani, accompanied by the funeral procession, was escorted on foot to the Lana bridge, then left for the Sharra cemetery, where the funeral ceremony takes place and the final farewell is given to the former head of state. 

On his part, President Ilir Meta accompanied by his daughter, Bora Meta was the first to pay homage this Thursday at 10:00. The head of state also left his note in the book of condolences for Bujar Nishani. 

The Albanian government declared June 2 a day of national mourning. On June 1, the homage was held at the Presidency, where family members received messages of condolence. 

Nevertheless, the dead body of the former head of state arrived in Albania early Wednesday morning from Germany, where he died after being hospitalized. 

Former President Bujar Nishani passed away at the age of 56. For more than a month he was transferred from the hospital "Shefqet Ndroqi" to a hospital in Germany for a more specialized treatment, but according to doctors there he fell into a coma. 

Nishani was hospitalized in the former Sanatorium of Tirana on April 20, due to complications of a pneumonia superimposed on postcovid fibrosis in the lungs. 

On April 23 he moved to Germany. Nishani was suffering from an autoimmune disease of the lungs and could not overcome the consequences that the Covid-19 virus left in the body.
