Measures on Tackling Price Stability, Priority; BoA's Governor
Governor of the Bank of Albania (BoA), Genc Sejko has ensured Friday in the Economy Commission that measures will be taken to stabilize prices.
In his speech, Sejko stated that the high inflation continues to damage the financial and economic stability of Albania, as he added that the income tax bill should be revised.
"The current priority of economic policies will be to take measures to guarantee price stability as soon as possible and at a reasonable cost", said Sejko.
Two days ago, BoA's Governor announced the increase in the basic interest rate, the fifth rate increase this year.
Decision of the Bank of Albania, according to Sejko, aims to strengthen the Albanian currency against foreign currencies, but at the same time it is a penalty for citizens who have loans in lek, considering that loans in ALL become more expensive for citizens' pockets.
According to the Bank of Albania, high inflation will continue for the remaining two months of this year, while it has caused a slowdown in the country's economic performance.
According to INSTAT, inflation in September reached 8.1%, the highest level since 1998.
