Mitsotakis Attends Memorial Service for Late Archbishop Anastasios in Athens

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the memorial service at the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, on Sunday led by Archbishop Ieronymos, in honor of the late Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durres and All Albania, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 95.

Also present at the service were President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Speaker of Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis, leader of the main opposition Nikos Androulakis, Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Kyriakos Pierrakakis, MEP Freddy Beleris, and other high-ranking officials.

According to reports, Archbishop Anastasios’s body will lie in state at the cathedral until the early hours of Monday morning, after which it will be transported to Tirana. There, the body will lie in state, ahead of the funeral service scheduled for Thursday.

Albania has declared a five-day period of mourning for the 95-year-old hierarch, who served as the spiritual leader of the country’s Greek-Orthodox community for over three decades.
