Moody’s Reaffirms Albania’s Ba3 Rating, Forecasts 3.5% Economic Growth for 2026

International credit rating agency Moody's has reaffirmed the stability of Albania’s economy, projecting economic growth of 3.5% in 2026.

In its latest assessment, the agency maintained Albania’s sovereign credit rating at “Ba3” with a stable outlook, placing the country once again in the same category among emerging economies. The rating from Moody’s—one of the world’s three leading credit rating agencies—is considered a key benchmark for international investors and plays an important role when countries access global financial markets to borrow.

According to the report, Albania’s real GDP growth is expected to reach 3.6% in 2025 and 3.5% in 2026, slightly below the Albanian government’s projection of 3.9% growth.

The agency highlighted tourism as the main driver of economic expansion, supported by a steady flow of foreign direct investment, particularly in the energy and tourism sectors, as well as continued growth in employment.

Moody’s also forecasts a further decline in public debt over the next three to five years, supported by the government’s fiscal discipline. Public debt is expected to fall to around 51% of GDP by 2027, down from an estimated 52.6% in 2025.

In addition, the agency estimates the budget deficit at 1.8% of GDP in 2025, up from 0.7% in 2024, but still below the government’s target of 2.4%.
