New Details Emerge Over Shooting Incident at Berat City Entrance

New information has emerged regarding the shooting in Berat, where a 37-year-old man was wounded by gunfire near the city’s entrance, in an area known locally as “Dogana.”

Initial reports suggested the incident occurred under unclear circumstances. However, after investigators reviewed security camera footage collected from nearby businesses and residences, a clearer picture of the events has begun to take shape.

According to police sources, the victim, Fabjel Toska Xhindi, was travelling in a Seat vehicle with a friend along the Kombinat–Dimal national road. Surveillance footage shows a black SUV repeatedly overtaking and being overtaken by their car in the minutes leading up to the shooting.

Following these manoeuvres, the 37-year-old reportedly stepped out of his vehicle and approached the driver’s side of the SUV to ask why he was being followed and overtaken. As the driver lowered the window, he allegedly fired a single shot, striking the victim in the abdomen.

Police state that both the injured man and his companion have declared during questioning that they had no prior acquaintance with the occupants of the SUV.

Fabjel Toska Xhindi was initially treated at Berat Regional Hospital before being transferred in serious condition to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana.

The investigative team, under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office, continues to work to clarify the circumstances of the incident and to secure evidence aimed at fully documenting the case and identifying the perpetrator or perpetrators.
