New Interior Minister Urges Police to Not Allow MPs' Influence in Their Work

Minister of Internal Affairs, Taulant Balla held this Monday a meeting with the structures depending on the institution he will lead.

Balla started his speech by thanking Prime Minister Edi Rama for the trust he showed, he gave orders to his subordinates.

In a strict manner, Balla said that he will not allow the MPs to interfere in the work of the Police and the structures of the Ministry of the Interior, while emphasizing that no one will be affected as far as their work position is concerned.

"Ladies and gentleman,

I address you today with the feeling of the greatest responsibility of my public life and deep gratitude for the trust of the Prime Minister of Albania, the President of the Republic and the parliamentary group of the majority, for accepting the office of your minister. I let you know from the beginning that I entered this building with the awareness that success in my work is impossible without you and that creating a team spirit in the struggle to fulfill the objectives of this sector is the basis of the success I aim for.

I assure you of my respect for the knowledge, experience, professionalism of this team and of my willingness to work with all of you, giving each and every one the opportunity to develop their abilities to do the best together.

It has happened in the past that my honorable predecessors in this position have started their work by changing managers and bosses. I do not feel today that I am better than any of you, and I do not see the way to judge any of you from the height of my duty. I am here to guide you, listening to you, supporting you, learning from you and going down to every level of the activity of this ministry, in every office and police station, from Tropoja to Konispol. Of course, the fact that I am taking the baton from a colleague and friend of mine, known for his seriousness and correctness, at a stage when the reform of the sector has already started 10 years ago, makes it easier for me than if I had to start all over again.

Today has no comparison with the past and stone by stone the construction of the state wall in this sector has progressed visibly and indisputably. But the future should not be compared to today, and I am here with the task of continuing to build the wall with you, even better, even faster, improving everything, in every direction. Whoever is willing to do this in his position on the line of this common front, will have my unreserved support at every step and my door open round the clock for any need. While whoever does not show the willingness to go beyond himself, increasing the contribution to the common cause, it will be impossible to stay in the position he has.

I come from a whole life now as an MP and among MPs. I believe that if there was a competition about who understands and appreciates the role of the deputy more, I would be a serious contender to win it. But no deputy should and cannot interfere in your work, therefore who will accept interference from deputies, for any concrete aspect in the dynamics of the performance of their duty, will not be able to present any justification to stay further in duty", stated Balla.
