Opposition Leader Berisha Addresses Protest, Calls Albanian Government Illegitimate

Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha addressed supporters on Saturday during a protest held in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, accusing the ruling majority of corruption and calling for the government’s removal.

In his speech, Berisha listed what he described as major scandals involving the current government, arguing that they justify its overthrow. He claimed that last year’s elections were turned into an “electoral farce” and accused the government of having ties to organized crime.

Berisha said the opposition had fulfilled its promise to protect the vote, adding that the final report of the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) documented serious irregularities in the 2025 elections.

“Thanks to your honest and dedicated work, our documentation and commitment, the ODIHR report proves that Rama turned the 2025 elections into a blatant electoral farce,” Berisha told the crowd.

He said the opposition is now close to what he described as a decisive moment, claiming it has reached “the final kilometer before triumph” after a long political struggle.

Berisha concluded by saying that dictatorships can only be brought down through popular revolt, while opposition leaders reiterated calls for continued protests against Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government.
