Opposition leader Sali Berisha has been granted a U.S. visa and is expected to travel to the United States next week, according to sources close to his Democratic Party.

Sources confirmed that Berisha had been notified that his visa had been approved. He is expected to collect his passport from the U.S. Embassy in Tirana on Tuesday morning, according to the same sources.

Berisha is expected to travel as part of a delegation that will reportedly include Republican Party leader Fatmir Mediu, Democratic Party lawmakers Belind Këlliçi and Albana Vokshi, and Enri Ceno, an international relations expert with the Democratic Party.

The reported visa approval came only hours after Berisha said his travel documents were still at the U.S. Embassy and that he had not yet received notification concerning his passport.

According to Berisha, his planned destination is Texas, where he intends to attend a conference of American Republicans as part of a delegation from the International Democrat Union (IDU).
