Hundreds of Orthodox Christian worshippers gathered across Albania on Friday evening to mark Good Friday, one of the most solemn and significant days in the lead-up to Easter.

In the capital, Tirana, believers assembled at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, where they took part in the Lamentations service, accompanied by their families. Candles were lit as prayers were offered in remembrance of the death of Jesus Christ.

At 7:30 p.m., the traditional Epitaph procession began, with worshippers accompanying the symbolic bier of Christ from the cathedral toward Skanderbeg Square. The ritual, observed annually, draws large crowds and holds deep spiritual significance for the Orthodox community.

Similar scenes unfolded in the city of Fier, where hundreds gathered to attend religious ceremonies marking the day. The procession there began at the Saint George Cathedral, accompanied by the sounds of a brass band, as believers of all ages joined in the observance.

Following long-standing tradition, the Epitaph was carried through the city center, conveying messages of peace, faith, hope, and resurrection before returning to the church, where it was welcomed by large numbers of worshippers.

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and precedes the celebration of his resurrection, which is observed at midnight on Holy Saturday. In Tirana, the evening service on Saturday is set to begin at 11:00 p.m., followed by the Resurrection service at 11:30 p.m.

Religious services and Epitaph processions were held across Orthodox dioceses nationwide, with strong attendance reported in many areas.
