Over 80 Families Evacuated Due to Floods, Kosovo
More than 80 families have been evacuated from their homes in Skenderaj, Kosovo after the floods since Thursday.
In this municipality, the worst situation is in the villages of Llaushë, Tushilë and Aqarevë, where damage has been caused to residential houses, businesses and agricultural land.
In Skenderaj, there are also roads blocked as a result of landslides in six locations where work is being done to free them.
From the day before, this Friday in Istog the situation is calmer after the cessation of rain, until the 12 families evacuated from the village of Dreje are expected to return to their homes.
In Klina, because the Klina river burst its banks, many agricultural lands and houses have been flooded. Even in this municipality there were evacuees where, in addition to the authorities, the citizens also helped.
At Mirusha Waterfall on the road that connects Klina to Gjakova, the road is also impassable due to the rise in the level of the Mirusha river.
In Mitrovica, the situation on Friday is more stable, however, there are many floods. Since last evening, the Kosovo Security Force has been assisting in evacuations and bringing the situation under control.
The Emergency Management Agency announces that the most affected municipalities are Istog, Klina, Mitrovica, Skenderaj and the municipalities in the North of Kosovo: Mitrovica, Zveçani and Zubin Potoku.
The rains are expected to continue until January 25, the Hydro Meteorological Institute of Kosovo has announced, adding that in addition to the affected regions, there will be others. For this reason, in some regions the water is not drinkable.
