Over ALL 103 Mln to Be Spent fot Vlora’s Airport on First Stage Only

First stage of Vlora Airport’s construction will mark the investment of EUR 103,500,000, while in the second stage that includes the first 4 years, hundreds of millions of EUR will be spent for the supplementary business and tourism infrastructure, has announced the businessman from Kosovo Behgjet Pacolli.

The businessman made these remarks as his company has won the bid to build Vlora’s airport. Also, Pacolli emphasized that the airport in question will be the largest investment of any private company in the region, in recent times.

“'Mabetex International' company has won (for the first time in Albanian lands) a magnificent project in Albania. It is a great honor and privilege for me and my company, to finally raise the Mabetex flag on Albanian soil.

I am grateful to all those who worked hard to win this project and also thank the Albanian Government for the right action to create this opportunity.

In the first phase (in the two-year period) will be built the Airport building and runways that capture the value of Investments over 103,500,000 EUR and in the second phase (in the first 4 years) will be developed additional business and tourism infrastructure that reach the value of investments in the hundreds of millions of EUR”, marked Pacolli.

On Friday, Albania's government selected a Swiss-based corporation to build a 104-million-euro ($125 million) new international airport near the southwestern town of Vlore in an effort to promote tourism and economic development.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy said the Lugano-based Mabco Constructions corporation would pay the airport construction costs and receive a 35-year concession to operate it. The first part of construction, which is expected to start later this year, will last 36 months.

Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluku acknowledged that the aviation industry “has been the most negatively impacted industry due to the pandemic.” But she added that the government believes that “during this time of recovery we have the possibility to build our airports network.”
