Parliament Approves Changes to Prime Minister Rama’s Cabinet After Tense Session

Albania’s Parliament approved a series of changes to Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government on Thursday following a tense parliamentary session, with lawmakers voting on a set of dismissals and new appointments affecting several key ministries.

The decisions were adopted individually through parliamentary votes, reshaping parts of the cabinet and introducing new leadership in several portfolios.

Among the most notable changes, Albana Koçiu was appointed Deputy Prime Minister, replacing Belinda Balluku, who was dismissed from the position.

Koçiu’s move created a vacancy at the Interior Ministry, where Besfort Lamallari was appointed Minister of Interior, taking over the role previously held by Koçiu.

In another shift, Toni Gogu was named Minister of Justice, replacing Lamallari following his reassignment. Gogu’s former position as Minister for Relations with Parliament will now be held by Erjona Ismaili.

Parliament also approved the appointment of Enea Karakaçi as Minister of Energy, following the dismissal of Balluku from the post.

Meanwhile, Ermal Nufi was appointed Minister of Defense, replacing Pirro Vengu, and Ferit Hoxha was named Minister for Foreign Affairs, taking over the role from Elisa Spiropali.

The parliamentary vote formalizes the latest reshuffle within Rama’s cabinet as the government seeks to reorganize key leadership positions.

The changes come amid political tensions in the legislature, though each proposal regarding dismissals and appointments was ultimately approved through a formal vote in Parliament.
