Parliament’s Ethics Secretariat to Review Requests to Suspend Balla, Bardhi and Balliu

Albania’s parliamentary Ethics Secretariat is expected to convene this Monday to review two requests seeking disciplinary measures against lawmakers Taulant Balla, Gazment Bardhi and Klevis Balliu following a previous parliamentary session that escalated into physical confrontations and inappropriate language.

The request was initially filed by the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Albania, which is seeking a 60-day suspension for Balla, a senior member of the Socialist Party of Albania, over a comment directed at opposition lawmaker Albana Vokshi. According to the request, Balla used “offensive, sexist, discriminatory and unacceptable language,” seriously undermining the dignity of the MP.

Meanwhile, the Socialist Party has asked for a 10-day suspension for Bardhi, accusing him of obstructing the parliamentary session and using offensive language.

The ruling party has also requested a 30-day suspension for Balliu, citing “aggressive behavior” and damage to parliamentary equipment after he allegedly pulled a microphone from his desk and attempted to strike Balla during the confrontation.
