Perpetrator Who Punched Berisha Not Part of Police

General Director of the State Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku, has rejected the statements of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, that 31-year-old Gerti Shehu, who punched him, was an agent of the Criminal Police.

Rrumbullaku said that Gerti Shehu was never a police agent and was never used as an infiltrator. He also emphasized that the document showing that Gerti Shehu suffers from mental health problems was made available to the media by the family members themselves.

"Regarding the statements of Berisha who stated that Gert Shehu is an agent of the Criminal Police, we clarify that the citizen Gert Shpëtim Shehu has never been and is not an agent of the Criminal Police in any of the structures of the State Police. He has never been used as an infiltrator by the police. The document that he is mentally ill was given by his family members themselves. The State Police strongly condemns these statements. We assure MP Berisha that the State Police in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office will work to clarify the incident", said Rrumbullaku.
