Tirana Prosecution Sent to Trial 8 Police Officers of Rinas and Businessman; Corruption Scheme Revealed

Nine people have been sent to trial by Tirana Prosecution Office, eight of whom were police officers in Rinas Airport. Those were sent to trial for the criminal offenses of "Active Corruption", "Passive Corruption" and "Abuse of Office".

According to the press statement, these people, in collaboration with each-other, helped people who violated the procedures of stay to the EU countries, or deported emigrants, to leave Albania. Prosecution informed that among those helped were even minors, who were let leaving the country without the consent of their parents.

The officers took from 50 to 500 euros for these services.

The corruption scheme was discovered after the arrest of Eneo Sulejmani, nearly a year ago. After the control of his phone, prosecution discovered the dialogue that he had with Rinas police office, mainly with Briken Tereziu, who was the one who helped him.

From the investigations of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, it resulted that Sulejmani owns a travel agency, with the object of activity, among other things, being a "ticket sales agency". In order to increase the profits of his company, this citizen recruited and secured passengers to travel to EU countries, taking over, in return for monetary payments, the extra value of the travel ticket, and the passage out of the territory of the Republic of Albania of persons who, for various reasons, could not travel.
