Police Self-Cleansing Has Entered New Phase; Minister

Interior Minister Taulant Balla declares that the self-cleansing of the State Police is a process that has entered a new phase and will be carried out to the end.

Through a post on social networks, Balla emphasizes that the strengthening of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the common fight to clean up the centers of crime in front of and within the organization of the State Police itself, will take Albania to another level of the rule of law.

Minister Balla has also thanked dozens of citizens who have reported many cases or submitted complaints for suspected illegal actions or that contradict the Code of Ethics in the State Police.

"The self-cleansing of the State Police is a process that has entered a new phase and will continue until the end. Strengthening the cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the common fight for cleaning up the centers of crime in front of and within the organization of the State Police itself, will take Albania to another level of the rule of law. All threads leaking sensitive information must be intercepted, including any form of communication with various applications used by crime, which must be fully investigated and the persons involved excluded and placed before the law.

I thank dozens of citizens who have reported many cases or filed complaints for suspected illegal actions or that contradict the Code of Ethics in the State Police. In a short time, we have, on the basis of these reports/complaints, arrested police officers, as well as expelled for violating ethical norms.

I thank a citizen of Shkodra, who sent us information last night about the location of a plot of cannabis. Upon receiving the information, the State Police made an action plan and the information turned out to be very accurate and the police operation was successfully concluded. I guarantee that his information was handled with the utmost care and that his anonymity will be treasured.

I thank a media that has made available film material about a suspicious behaviour of a police patrol in Lezha last night. The behaviour is unacceptable, the actions are compromising, even if in that hand and in that pocket there is not the reasonable suspicion of every eye that sees it and every mind that judges it.

Today I want to repeat to every member of the State Police, that the fight against corruption does not start outside us, but starts from within our ranks. The Police Oversight Agency must perform its duties at the level of the expectations of the Prime Minister, myself as Minister and the public, in any case and immediately!" Balla said.
