Police Urge Calm as Student Protests in Tirana Turn Tense
Albania’s State Police has called on participants in the ongoing student protests in Tirana to remain calm, avoid violence and distance themselves from masked individuals accused of attacking police officers and damaging public and private property.
In an official statement, police stressed that the right to peaceful assembly is guaranteed by the Albanian Constitution, while violence against law enforcement officers, citizens and public institutions is unacceptable and punishable under the law.
The police said they remain on duty to protect public safety, safeguard lives and property, and ensure citizens can exercise their right to peaceful protest.
Authorities also called for an immediate end to violent acts, warning that anyone engaging in unlawful activities would face criminal liability.
The State Police pledged to continue operating with professionalism, restraint and determination, in accordance with the law, to maintain public order and security.
“The right to protest is protected. Violence will not be tolerated,” the statement said.
