Premier Thanks Spain for Support in EU Talks

Prime Minister Rama has opened Monday the conference he is holding with the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, who is in Tirana, publicly thanking him and stated that Spain has been one of the most vocal actors in the integration process for Albania and North Macedonia.

During the conference, Rama emphasized that Albania has high expectations from Spain, which will take over the presidency in 2023.

However, the Spanish Prime Minister's visit to Albania is part of the tour that Pedro Sanchez is conducting in the Western Balkans, which includes Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Albania.

"After the historic step of opening negotiations for EU membership, we are glad and I want to publicly thank Pedro for his unreserved support of Spain in this process. I remember that Spain had a more rigid position than some others, being in some more demanding way and today Spain is fully engaged in supporting this process and has been one of the actors to speak to open negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia.

We have an expectation from Spain which will lead the presidency in 2023. We talked with the prime minister about the region he is visiting, about regional initiatives, about how we can integrate this process of regional initiatives with the process that starts with the idea of ??a new European political community", said Rama.
