President Ilir Meta commemorated this Tuesday the 76th anniversary of the Liberation of Tirana, saying that the victorious war for the capital paved the way for the complete liberation of Albania and the preservation of the integrity and borders of the Albanian state. 

Among other things, while publishing some rare photos of that time, Meta emphasizes that the liberation of Tirana was an important contribution to strengthen the legitimacy and credibility of Albania, as a country dedicated to the Antifascist Alliance.
 

"Today, we commemorate with deep respect and legitimate pride, November 17, 1944, the Day of the coronation with the victory of the legendary battle for the Liberation of Tirana, our capital, from the Nazi fascist invaders! 

The victorious war for the Capital paved the way for the complete liberation of Albania and the preservation of the integrity and borders of the Albanian state.

76 years ago, partisan boys and girls, together with the insurgent citizens of Tirana, would carry out one of the most glorious and successful military operations, giving the right and credence to the partisan brigades to enter the capital victoriously. 

To come to this white day, it took the blood and life of hundreds of Martyrs, the sacrifices and efforts of thousands of partisans in every square, alley, barricade and house of the capital! 

The liberation of Tirana was an important contribution to strengthening the legitimacy and credibility of Albania, as a country committed to the Antifascist Alliance. 

The great messages of freedom, peace and the fight against tyranny, sound even more relevant today than ever, honored and untouched by the time and subsequent deviations of the cause of freedom of our glorious partisans. 

Today I bow with respect to the Martyrs of the Fatherland, who gave their blood for the Liberation of the Capital. 

With gratitude to all the partisans, today we honor the people of Tirana, who became one with the liberators against the invaders, building barricades for the liberators and turning their homes into fortifications against the invaders.
