Prime Minister Edi Rama Dismisses Interior Minister, Successor Expected
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has dismissed Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari from his post, according to local media reports.
Ervin Demo, who has served as Minister of Local Government until now, is expected to take over the Interior Ministry.
Lamallari had previously headed Albania’s Ministry of Justice, assuming the position in September 2025. He has also held several senior positions in the public administration, including serving as Deputy Interior Minister since October 2017.
With extensive experience in security, justice and the fight against organized crime, Lamallari has played a key role in Albania’s European integration process. Since 2020, he has represented Albania as the lead negotiator for Chapter 24, covering “Justice, Freedom and Security,” in the country’s accession negotiations with the European Union.
His government career has also included responsibilities during major national emergencies.
