The Producer Price Index marked an increase of 1.0% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2024

Production Costs Growth Slow Down in end-2024

After a continuous increase in costs, manufacturers' growth slowed in the last months of 2024.

According to INSTAT data, the Producer Price Index reached 129.4 in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to 2021 as the base period.

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the Producer Price Index marked an increase of 1.0%, a year ago this change was 3.1%. The Producer Price Index in the fourth quarter of 2024 increased by 0.1%, compared to the third quarter of 2024.

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the largest price increase of 2.6% is observed in the “Extracting and mining” section, followed by the “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning” section with 2.2%, the “Water supply, waste treatment and management activities” section with 0.5% and “Manufacturing” section with 0.4%.

Within the “Manufacturing industry” section, the largest price increase is observed in the activities “Printing and repackaging of recorded media” and “Manufacture of transport vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers” by 2.3% each, followed by the activity “Manufacture of electrical equipment” by 2.0%, “Manufacture of beverages” by 1.9%, etc.

On the other hand, the largest price decrease is observed in the activity “Manufacture of non-metallic mineral products” by 1.3%, followed by “Manufacture of textiles” by 1.2%, etc.

Producer Price Index of products for the domestic market: Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the index increased by 1.3%.

The largest price increase is observed in the section “Electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning” by 2.8%, followed by the section “Manufacturing Industry” by 0.9% and the section “Water supply, waste treatment, and management activities” by 0.8%. On the other hand, the section “Extractive Industry” has recorded a decrease of 0.01%.

Producer Price Index of products for export: Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the index recorded an increase of 0.5%. The price increase was recorded in the section “Extractive Industry” by 4.4%, followed by the section “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning” by 0.4%. On the other hand, the section "Water supply, waste treatment and management activities" has decreased by 0.8%, followed by the section "Manufacturing Industry" by 0.1%.

According to INSTAT, the Import Price Index, in the fourth quarter of 2024, reached 108.0, compared to the year 2021 as the base period. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the import price index marked a decrease of 0.9%, a year earlier this change was a decrease of 0.5%. The quarterly change in the import price index in the fourth quarter of 2024, compared to the third quarter of 2024 has a slight increase of 0.01%.

Import prices of products in the section “Electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning” marked a decrease of 5.2%, followed by the sections “Manufacturing industry”, with the largest share of 93.5%, with 0.7%, and “Extracting industry” with 0.1%.
