Protest Underway Outside Albania’s Parliament as 600 Police Officers Secure the Area

A parliamentary session is underway in Albania on Thursday as a civic protest is taking place simultaneously outside the country’s Parliament.

So far, the number of protesters gathered outside the Parliament has been reported as relatively low. Demonstrators have positioned themselves along George W. Bush Street, the main road leading toward the Parliament building.

Authorities have established three police cordons around the area, according to reports. One cordon has reportedly been positioned near a shopping center, another near Elbasan Street, and a third close to the Ministry of Interior.

Around 600 police officers are reportedly deployed in the area as security measures remain in place during the parliamentary proceedings.

The protest is taking place as lawmakers debate issues on the parliamentary agenda, including proposed changes concerning magistrates and their compensation.
