Protesters Break Into Albania’s Economy Ministry as Unrest Continues in Tirana

Protesters broke into the premises of Albania’s Ministry of Economy as unrest continued in Tirana after more than 10 hours of demonstrations marked by violence and property damage.

Demonstrators entered the ministry building and began removing items and office equipment, including a printer, according to reports from the scene.

Damage was also reported at the headquarters of Albania’s Central Election Commission (CEC), where windows were smashed as the demonstrations continued.

The incidents represent a further escalation in a day of unrest in the Albanian capital, where protesters have staged prolonged demonstrations demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and changes to the country’s political leadership.

Earlier confrontations involved clashes with police, tear gas, water cannon and fires, while several banks and businesses were also reportedly damaged.

Despite the hours of unrest, protesters have continued their demonstrations, with no immediate indication that the mobilization is coming to an end.

The situation remains tense as the protests continue across central Tirana.
