Protests Enter Day 12 as Nationwide Demonstration Draws Support From Unions, Doctors and Artists

Student protests in Albania entered their 12th day on Saturday, October 24, as demonstrators prepared for a nationwide rally in the capital, with support growing among university professors, doctors, trade unions and members of the cultural and media sectors.

The demonstration is expected to bring together students from across the country, including those who have held protests in university cities outside Tirana during the past week.

The Independent Trade Union of Art, Culture and Media of Albania has also announced its participation in the October 24 demonstration, expressing solidarity with students, young people and citizens.

In a public appeal, the union called on its members, artists and workers in the cultural and media sectors to gather outside the Prime Minister’s Office at 11 a.m. The organization said participation reflected both civic responsibility for the country’s future and the need to defend workers’ rights.

Student groups are expected to gather outside the government building at 2 p.m., as mobilization efforts continue across Albania. Students from other cities are expected to travel to the capital to join the rally, while members of the Albanian diaspora are also expected to take part.

The demonstration comes amid continued political tensions, with protesters maintaining their demand for Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation despite his repeated calls for dialogue.

Rama has said he will not step down but remains willing to engage in talks with the demonstrators.

Saturday’s rally is set to bring together a broad range of groups, extending the movement beyond university campuses and highlighting growing solidarity among different segments of Albanian society.
